Hi,
2000 chev impala with 109k. During safety inspection, it was noted that front right tie rod needs replacing.
At this mileage, age,etc... should both left and right tie rods be replaced? Or do I wait for other side to need replacing?
thanks,
Chris

You should ask your trusted mechanic to look at both of them for you to get a second opinion. See what he/she thinks about the good one. If it shows any signs of wear, get them both replaced. If the good one doesn't show any signs of wear, lubricate it and leave it in.

I would only replace it if there was any looseness at all in it since they're easy to inspect and replace. Just an FYI. The right side is often the one to go first because the sides of most roads are far rougher than the centers. This leads to the right side tie rod taking a beating as it has a tendency to hit more holes due to missing asphalt, debris, and running off the edge of the pavement. The right side is also more prone to curb strikes from corner cutting, parallel parking, etc.
