I recently changed a fuel filter for a relative and the aftermarket filter caused me some grief. This filter was purchased from AutoZone and while I do not remember the brand name (red/white box) it was not a Fram, Wix, Purolator, etc.

This filter mounts with a banjo bolt on top and a threaded, flared hose fitting on the bottom. After installation this filter gushed gas from the inlet side (the flared hose end) and no amount of dinking would stop it.

After finally pulling it back off I determined this to be caused by the flared dome inside the filter not being cut to the same angle as the flare on the metal fuel line. Similar to grinding a valve at 45 degrees and the valve seat at 30. The metal to metal contact will be skimpy at best.

After procuring another filter from O'Reillys (Wix) this filter went right on with no problems at all. Just a heads up that certain filters may be best avoided.
