I bought gas today for the mighty sum of $2.079 per gallon. That's about half of what I paid over the summer.

$2.099/gal Wednesday in St. Louis.

I'm delighted the price is down from the $4.099 of just a couple months ago but I'm not going to particularly free up my driving habits. I made the change to driving quite a bit less on average several years ago when gas hit around the $1.60/gal to $1.80/gal mark.

I still firmly believe this current drop in price won't hold for long before it goes back up somewhat in the near future and dramatically higher at some point likely not all that far off. Whether or not we are headed for $500/barrel oil within a very few years, as the article I read hypothisizes, I'm going to continue pinching pennies and using as little gas a possible.

It was $2.179 here in Jax, FL.

I don't think it will go back up until this recession is over. We have gone from not being able to afford gas because of the price to not being able to afford gas because we have no money. Either way, demand won't go back up until we can afford it.

I agree, Jeremy. Several money guys don't see a turnaround completed for at least 5 years. There is always room for error when you gaze into the future, but no one sees a quick return to the free money economy we had up until this autumn.

Dude! You gonna make us do the math?! (colorful language...colorful language) ;')

OK, OK, it's $3.03 to $3.30 per US gallon. Must be taxes.

Regukar here today was 85.6 cents per liter.

With our imperial gallon that works out to 85.6 cents times 4.5 liters= $3.87

Lucky us eh?

I took a quick trip to rural western PA this weekend. Gas is $2.399 per gallon for regular.

Roadrunner, I converted from Liters to US liquid gallons in response to lprocter's post on Saturday. $0.87/L is about $3.30 per US gallon. That's still quite high, but probably about half what it was over the summer.

Am I wrong or don't they use US-gallons in USA = 3,84 liters.
Right now the price is down to $5,85 here in Denmark. Well, that's better than $8,66 4 months ago.
Btw. A (late) merry Christmas and a happy new year to all of you and may your toolboxes be with you.

I do not worry a lot about gas prices. At $3 a gallon, which I think is current price for premium here in Mexico, (between 9 and 10 pesos a L. at maybe 12.9 pesos for a dollar) and assuming 20 mpg on my mostly highway driven Sienna, 100,000 miles seems like it would cost $15,000, though clearly in the US, it costs less now, which is still much less than the depreciation and other costs on a good car. I just figure the cost of my lifestyle includes driving the vehicle which meets my needs and wants.

To me, life is too short to be constantly nervous about every aspect of my life. I keep journals of expenses, and if my outgo approaches my income, I cut back on something optional to make it go.

If I still worked and drove 70 miles a day to work, I'd probably buy a Smart Car or something extremely efficient by Honda or Toyota... But, I lived within half an hour walking distance of work, though we usually drove anyway for time constraints and weather.

I'm paying about $2.65 for regular. Depending on taxes, the actual gas price may be similar.
